The challenge is sorting through the sea of information available at our fingertips without drowning in the overflow. Discover new ways to take command of this area of your research life by mastering search techniques and sharpening skills to make your time spent on the Internet as productive as possible. Find out how to evaluate the quality of Web resources. Explore new free and fee-based tools, such as PUSH technology, news services, online directories, and research libraries. Learn advanced techniques such as Boolean logic, adjacency, and field searching. Presenter: Helen Brown is president of The Helen Brown Group LLC, a prospect research consulting and training firm founded in 2002. Helen was formerly director of research at Northeastern University and at the Harvard School of Public Health (HSPH). She has been a development professional since 1987, when she began her career as a researcher for her alma mater, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She moved into successively responsible positions at the Albert Einstein Institution and Boston College before being named director of research at HSPH. The Helen Brown Group assists clients in the US, UK and Europe with prospect identification, prospect management and strategy, benchmarking and training, data mining and wealth screenings. Helen is a director of Factary Ltd. (Bristol, UK) and is Special Advisor on Fundraising to the board of the North American Foundation for the University of Manchester, England. She is past president of the New England Development Research Association (NEDRA) and a former director of Project Literacy.
