Description:

Social Media is emerging as a new frontier of prospect research.  Join fellow development researchers in a lunchtime discussion of social media tools, websites, various applications of social media outlets to prospect research (i.e. – prospect identification; biographical information; news alerts), as well as the ethics behind the use of social media in our field.

Please note that this RING is a “brown bag” lunch discussion. Participants are responsible for bringing and providing their own lunch and beverages.

Faculty:

Valerie Anastasio has served as Director of Prospect Development at Boston Children’s Hospital Trust since August 2013.  Her development experience spans more than two decades, including positions at the Broad Institute, Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, Harvard University, Brandeis University, Boston Lyric  Opera, and as a consultant with the Helen Brown Group.  She is a past board member of NEDRA and a recipient of NEDRA’s Ann Castle Award.  She is fairly active on Twitter (@vanastasio), moderately so on  LinkedIn, occasionally on Facebook, and lurking on Instagram, Pinterest, Polyvore, and WattPad in a bleak attempt to stay relevant with her 12 year old daughter.

Dave Owens is a Senior Prospect Researcher at the Boston Children’s Hospital Trust, where he also began his development career as a Prospect Researcher in 2001.  Prior to his tenure at Boston Children’s Hospital, he worked in clinical administration at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in the departments of Pulmonary Care and Oncology.  He received his M.A. degree in Political Science from Northeastern University, a B.A. degree in Philosophy and Public Policy from UMass/Boston, as well as an A.A. degree in Mathematics/Science from Cape Cod Community College.  When he is not discovering social media and real estate assessor sites, he enjoys spending time outdoors fishing, kayaking and birding.

Bill Gotfredson serves as Associate Director, Prospect Research of Boston Children’s Hospital Trust, a position he has held since 2014. Prior to his work at Children’s, Bill worked for nine years with the Harvard University Development Office where he served as a Senior Research Analyst responsible for prospecting for the University’s science initiatives.  Bill is also a prospect research consultant with the Helen Brown Group and a NEDRA Annual Conference Committee member.
