NEW RESEARCH: NAVIGATING YOUR WAY THROUGH A CHANGING FINANCIAL LANDSCAPE (10:00 am - 12:00 Noon)
Presenters: Sara Massari, Emily Shull

As the center of the US financial industry and home to some of the wealthiest neighborhoods in the country, the New York metro region is dense with potential donors. This session will provide helpful tips for researching prospects in this unique region. The discussion will touch upon the financial industry, compensation, real estate, as well as the financial crisis and its impact on prospects, fundraising, and research.

LEVERAGING RESOURCES AND EMPOWERING OTHERS (1:00 pm - 3:00 pm)
Presenters: Amy Begg, Anne Brownlee

Are you utilizing the resources around your institution and in your office? In this session we will identify and learn how to leverage resources available to institutions of all size, from the smallest budget and staff to the largest budget and staff. In a resource constrained environ-ment, learn creative ways to empower yourself, your colleagues and your organization.

Presenters:

Sara Massari is a Senior Research Analyst at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Previously, she served as Manager of Prospect Research at the Peabody Essex Museum, in Salem, MA. From 2006 to 2008, Sara was a Senior Research Analyst at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where she was assigned to the New York Metro Region. Sara entered fundraising in 1998, and has also held positions at the Institute of Contemporary Art, American Repertory Theatre, and Harvard University. She received a B.F.A. from the Rhode Island School of Design. Sara presented New York Research at the 2009 NEDRA annual conference.

Emily Shull is a Senior Research Analyst at MIT, where she focuses on the New York Metro Region. Prior to joining MIT in 2005, she served as Development Coordinator for Bridge Over Troubled Waters, a multi- service youth organization in Boston. Before entering the development field, Emily managed domestic and international market research projects for Research International. Emily holds a B.A. from Goucher College. She presented New York Research at the 2009 NEDRA annual conference.

Amy Begg is the associate director of research at Harvard University's Office of Alumni Affairs and Development. She is also a prospect research consultant providing services to more than thirty non-profit organizations, including schools, museums, civic and youth organizations, hospitals and religious organizations in Boston, New York City and Washington, D.C. Prior to joining the Harvard University research department, Amy was the director of research at the YMCA of Greater New York in Midtown Manhattan. She has presented at past NEDRA and APRA annual conferences.

Anne Brownlee is the assistant director of research and training manager at Harvard University's Office of Alumni Affairs & Development. She oversees research efforts in the New York Region and London and works to educate Researchers and Fundraisers on wealth and philanthropic trends. Anne joined Harvard in 2006 after two years as a senior research analyst at Brown University. She started her career in Development Research in 2002 at Brandeis University. Anne has a BA from Wellesley College and an MLS from Indiana University. Anne has presented at past NEDRA and APRA annual conferences.
