    I remember this meeting well! The discussion of ethics that day is just as relevant today as it was then. I particularly remember Susan Ehrman's presentation about whether or not a researcher should identify himself/herself when making phone calls to gather information in a donor's home town. Susan shared several "horror stories,"including a case in which a researcher called the donor's town hall and reached a staff member who obviously had a grudge against the donor. The staff member proceeded to rant for several minutes about the donor, providing all manner of personal information. Suddenly the staff member paused and said, "Who the heck are you"? Of course now that we have the internet, we call a donor's home town less often. But Susan's story provides a lesson in why we need to be open and forthright about who we are when we are conducting research. .
